Nine people charged following Extinction Rebellion protest in Launceston

Nine people have been charged following the Extinction Rebellion protest in Launceston yesterday.

 

The group, numbering around 100, was well behaved during the demonstration period, however nine members of the group allegedly refused to comply with police directions to move on at the end of the demonstration permit period.

 

The nine people were arrested and the roadway was reopened around 6pm.

 

All nine people were charged with fail to comply with a direction of a police officer.  Those charged were:

A 77 year old Western Creek woman

A 77 year old Exeter man

A 77 year old Evandale man

A 77 year old Lilydale woman

A 33 year old East Launceston woman

A 64 year old Lilydale man

A 63 year old Gravelly Beach man

A 65 year old Punchbowl man

A 69 year old East Launceston man

 

The nine will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date.
