Offenders detected speeding – Brooker Highway at Claremont

Four separate incidents of motorist travelling at excessive speeds have been detected on the Brooker Highway by members of Glenorchy Police over the past two days.

On Thursday 11/12/2014, a 21 year old male motorist was detected travelling at 153kph in 100kph zone, leading to his vehicle being fitted with a steering wheel clamp, with subsequent charges to follow. A further vehicle was later detected at 142kph, with the 45 year old male driver being subject to a fine of $650, and disqualified from driving for 3 months.

On Friday 12/12/2014, a 17 year old male motorist was detected travelling at 143kph, when his provisional license conditions limited him to travelling at 80kph, 63kph over his permissible speed limit. The vehicle was fitted with a steering wheel clamp, with subsequent charges to follow.   A further vehicle was later detected at 110kph, the 18 year old female provisional driver also being subject to an 80kph speed limit. This driver being subject to a penalty of 5 demerit points, and $450.

The Brooker Highway is the major thoroughfare for traffic entering from the north, Tasmania Police are committed to ensure motorists use this highway responsibly and safely.
