Traffic flow was greatly reduced on Christmas Day and for the most part, those drivers that were out and about around Tasmania were driving safely. With the approximately 1500 Random Breath Tests we conducted, only 1 drink driver and 4 driving with illicit drugs were charged.

Police in the north did attempt to intercept one speeding motorist on the Bass Highway near Deloraine, at 11.15am with this driver failing to stop for police. Tasmania Police committed significant resources in an attempt to locate this vehicle but were unable to do so. The vehicle was a green Subaru Forester station wagon with NSW registration CF81XK, and anyone with any information, particularly as to the identity of the driver is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

As we head towards New Years and with people driving to either public events or to their holiday destinations Tasmania Police, as always, ask that they drive within the speed limits and with regard to the road conditions, that they wear their seatbelts, don’t allow themselves to be distracted, don’t drive with alcohol or drugs in their system and don’t continue to drive if fatigued.
