Officers from Western Road Policing Services have detected a P-plater travelling 27km/h over their 100km/h limit near Ulverstone this week.

About 4.00pm on Thursday (27 August) police detected the 20-year-old Hellyer woman driving at 127km/h on the Bass Highway near Ulverstone.

Sergeant Nigel Sheahan said speed limits are not a suggestion. They are in place to protect all road users and reduce the likelihood and severity of crashes.”

“P-platers are over represented in fatal and serious crashes.”

“The speed restrictions that apply to P-plate drivers recognise their limited driving experience and are an important safeguard for both novice drivers and the wider community.”

“Every driver has a responsibility to help keep our roads safe, and police will continue to take enforcement action against those who put others at risk.”

The driver now faces a $372 fine as well as three demerit points.
