Tasmania Police responded to a call for assistance shortly before 8:30pm last night, after two adults and a child were caught in rising tide waters near Clifton Beach.

The trio had been fishing in the shallow waters of Pipe Clay Lagoon since the early evening and became disoriented as they attempted to make their way to shore in the dark, with the tide changing quickly.

Police would like to thank nearby residents who gave assistance and guidance to the group, who managed to discard their swimming equipment and swim to shore.

“This incident serves as a reminder to all Tasmanians that safety needs to be front of mind as we return to enjoying more outdoor activities again,” said Inspector Rebecca Davis.

“Please ensure that you take the time to plan your outing properly, make sure you have the relevant safety equipment and that you understand the local conditions.”
