Police investigate triple fatality – Bass Highway, Carrick

Police are investigating a triple fatality which occurred on the Bass Highway at Carrick earlier this morning.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene between Oaks Road and Illawarra Road about 5.35am.

Initial investigations indicate that the male driver of a white Toyota Prado heading towards Launceston crossed over onto the incorrect side of the road and into the path of a silver Mazda BT50 utility heading towards Deloraine. The driver’s two children aged 4 years and 9 months were in the rear seat of the Prado.

The driver of the Prado and the two male occupants of the Mazda sadly died at the scene. The two children were taken to the Launceston General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Crash Investigation Services and Forensic Services remain at the scene undertaking investigations. Initial investigations indicate speed is not considered to be a factor in the crash, and drug and alcohol test results are pending.  Police can confirm the driver of the Prado was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those involved in the crash.
