Sadly, three people have died, and two people are in a critical condition following a two-vehicle crash at Elizabeth Town this afternoon.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene on the Bass Highway, east of the Gannons Hill Road intersection, about 2pm.

Emergency services arrived to a complex scene where a white Chery and a white Isuzu D-MAX towing a trailer had crashed.

There were two women in the Chery, and sadly both were declared deceased at the scene.

There were three men in the D-MAX. Sadly one man was declared deceased at the scene. One man was flown to the Royal Hobart

Hospital in a critical condition, and the other man was transported by Ambulance to the Launceston General Hospital also in a critical condition.

The Bass Highway was closed for several hours while a crash investigation was conducted at the scene. The Highway has now re-opened, however, motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution in the area.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
