Sadly, one man has died, and another man is in a serious condition following a two-vehicle crash on the East Derwent Highway at Otago Bay this morning.

About 4.20am, police and emergency services were notified of a crash near Otago Bay Road, on the East Derwent Highway, where a white Toyota HiLux and silver Holden Rodeo had been involved in a collision.

The crash was reported by a passing motorist.

There were no passengers in the vehicles involved in the crash.

On arrival, emergency services extracted both men from their respective vehicles before they were taken by ambulance to Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.

Sadly, a 55-year-old man who was the driver of the HiLux has since died.

The 28-year-old driver of the Rodeo remains in RHH in a serious but stable condition.

The East Derwent Highway at Otago Bay was closed for about five hours as crash scene investigators gathered evidence. The road is now open.

Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the East Derwent Highway about the time of the crash, to contact them on 131 444. Please quote Offence Report 817728.
