Police investigating firearms discharge at Old Beach

Police are investigating a firearms discharge at Old Beach last night. 

Around 7.50pm police responded to reports of a firearm discharged towards a residence on Tandara Court. 

Police believe the incident was targeted, and the firearm was discharged from within a white utility bring driven on Tandara Court. 

Around 8.05pm, the vehicle involved – a white Ford Courier utility which had been reported stolen – was located unattended and on fire on Otago Bay Road. 

No injuries were reported in the incident. 

“Understandably this incident will be concerning to the local community. I’d like to assure residents in the area that police believe this incident was targeted, and there was no threat to the wider community,” said Inspector Troy Morrisby. 

“Police are investigating and take all instances of firearm discharge seriously. 

“I ask anyone with information in relation to the firearms discharge, or the fire at Otago Bay Road, to come forward.”
