Police renew call for information over New Year’s Day fatal pedestrian crash

Police have renewed their call for information following a fatal pedestrian crash on the Midland Highway at Brighton on New Year’s Day.

Sergeant Luke Walker, of Southern Crash Investigation Services, said that police were still actively investigating the crash that killed 30 year old Claremont man Gary John Hayes.

“We are following a number of lines of enquiry and are asking members of the public to come forward if they have any information, no matter how relevant they believe it to be,” Sergeant Walker said.

“Police believe that a large vehicle, possibly a truck or similar, was involved in the crash.”

Sadly, Gary was not only a husband to his wife but also her primary carer.

“This is a tragic event, and police want to identify the driver and vehicle involved so the victim’s family can have some closure,” Sergeant Walker said.
