Police traffic operation in Hobart

Police are urging motorists to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs after a number were detected at a traffic operation in Hobart last night.

As part of the Enough is Enough Road Safety Strategy, Road Policing Services conducted a traffic operation at 9.30pm on Mellifont Street focussing on detection of offences relating to drink and drug driving.

  • 1 female driver was charged with Exceeding 0.05 with a low range reading
  • 2 drivers were detected driving with illicit drugs in blood
  • 1 driver was intercepted in relation to a vehicle defect and found to be driving whilst disqualified. The vehicle was seized by police due to the number of times the driver had previously been found driving whilst disqualified.

“Police remind the community regularly of the dangers of the Fatal Five contributors to fatal and serious crashes – and we need the message to be heard,” said Senior Sergeant Adrian Leary.

“Driving under the influence puts the driver and other road users at the very real risk of death and injury on our roads.

“Road Policing Services will be conducting regular operations both in rural and urban areas and the public are warned that they will be held to account if they break the road rules,” said Senior Sergeant Adrian Leary.
