Police vehicle crash and subsequent evade

A 26 year old male from Rosebery has been charged with Evade Police following an incident on the Murchison Highway earlier today.

Police allege the man left the scene in his vehicle after being intercepted by police for allegedly speeding at 35km/h over the posted speed limit of 100km/h.

During the incident, the police motorbike collided with the rear of the vehicle when it braked suddenly. The police officer received minor injuries. The driver initially stopped and rendered assistance to the officer, but it is alleged he then left the scene contrary to the directions of the officer.

The driver will also face charges relating to the alleged speeding offence.

The man will appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court on 2 February 2021.
