Police warn on vehicle security

Bridgewater CIB is currently investigating a series of motor vehicle burglaries and stealings that have occurred recently in the Old Beach area. The offenders have been targeting four wheel drives, utilities and more recently, motor bikes. The burglaries are predominantly occurring in the early hours of the morning, and Sergeant Darren Latham of the Bridgewater CIB said that in some cases, victims have disturbed the offenders.

“We know of some occasions where offenders left empty handed. On most occasions the offenders simply search the vehicles for valuables or money before leaving the cars without actually taking anything.”

Three of the vehicles which were stolen, were later located in the Gagebrook area shortly after the crimes occurred.

Police encourage people to ensure that their vehicles are secure, with no valuable items left inside. Motor bikes in particular were an issue as some have been unsecured at the time they were stolen.

“Vehicle immobilisers are an affordable device that can prevent the theft of your vehicle,” Sergeant Latham said.

Any information relating to the thefts can be provided to the Bridgewater CIB on 6268 4103 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
