Provisional Driver detected speeding 55km/h over the limit on East Tamar Highway

A provisional driver has had her vehicle clamped and will appear before the court after being detected by police travelling at 55km/h above the speed limit on the East Tamar Highway.

Around 9:30pm on Saturday, police on mobile patrol detected a grey SUV travelling at 145km/h on the East Tamar Highway.

The vehicle was being driven by an 18-year-old first year provisional license holder from Launceston. As a first year provisional license holder the driver was restricted to a maximum speed of 90km/h in the 100km/h zone.

“It’s disheartening that some drivers continue to disregard the Road Rules and police road safety messages and put their lives and the lives of others at risk through high range speeding”, Senior Constable Rob Shepherd said.

As result of the excessive speed the woman had her vehicle clamped for 28 days and she will appear before the court at a later date.
