Queenstown Vegetation fires – charges laid

Vegetation Fires at Queenstown

Approximately 2:00am on 1 January 2016, Tasmania Police attended two vegetation fires at the eastern end of Crotty Street, Queenstown.  The fires were being extinguished by Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) personnel.

As a result of information received from members of the public, police conducted investigations and arrested a 24 year old man.  He was charged with three counts of unlawfully setting fire to property.  One count related to a small vegetation fire that occurred on 14 December 2015 in the Queenstown area.

Acting Inspector Martin Parker would like to thank members of the public for being vigilant and providing information that assisted with the apprehension of the suspect.

“Tasmania Police are grateful for information provided by members of the community and would like to remind the public if they observe any suspicious behaviour in or around bushland to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” stated Acting Inspector Parker.
