Rescue of swimmer – Seven Mile Beach

Tasmania Police remind people to enjoy Tasmania’s beaches safely following a  rescue at Seven Mile Beach today.

Around 12:20 police received information that a paddle boarder was in distress at Seven Mile Beach.

A 10yr old girl from Howrah had drifted approximately 400 metres from shore and was unable to return due to the weather conditions. A 50yr old man from Acton Park witnessed the incident and assisted by entering the water with a body board, however, the conditions forced both further out.

Police, members of the Carton Park Surf Life Saving Club and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter responded to the incident. Both the child and man were located approximately 1km from shore and winched to safety.

Police would like to thank the man and members of the Carlton Park Surf Life Saving Club for their assistance.

As the weather warms up it is critically important that people are appropriately prepared when enjoying Tasmania’s beaches.

When recreating on paddle boards, adhere to the following advice:

  • Wear a life jacket
  • Let someone know before you go
  • Know your limits
  • Check the Weather
