Royal Commission into Institutional Response to Child Sexual Abuse

The Royal Commission into Institutional Response to Child Sexual Abuse can refer individual cases to police for further investigation.

The Department of Police and Emergency Management (DPEM) cooperates with the Royal Commission by responding to incidents and/or reports and sharing information relevant to child sexual abuse occurring in institutional settings.

DPEM has established protocols with the Royal Commission for incident referral, information sharing, and investigative processes.

The Department appointed a Liaison Officer to coordinate information requested by the Royal Commission, and monitor the evidence provided to the Royal Commission at the Hobart hearings.

Tasmania Police has received 6 referrals from the Royal Commission in recent weeks, and they are subject to investigation.

The information contained in the ‘The Australian’ newspaper article, 10 December 2014, will be considered in liaison between Tasmania Police and the Royal Commission.
