Search continues after firearm incident at Wynyard
Police resources are set to remain in the Wynyard area tonight and into Thursday as investigations continue into a wounding incident involving a firearm on Sandpiper Road.
Police and other emergency services were called to the residential address shortly after 3pm on Wednesday following reports a person had received a gunshot wound to the stomach.
A man aged in his late 30s has been taken to hospital and remains in a serious condition.
Initial investigations indicate the man sustained a single gunshot wound from a small calibre rifle.
Police have recovered a firearm at the scene, which will undergo testing.
No other injuries have been reported and a crime scene has been declared at the address.
Police believe the parties involved in this incident are known to each other and were involved in a disturbance at the front of the property prior to the wounding.
As of 10.30pm Wednesday, no arrests have been made.
Investigations continue as police try and locate some of the people involved in this incident, including the person suspected of using the firearm, who left the scene before officers arrived.
Multiple police units, including specialist resources, are involved in the investigation and people in the Burnie and Wynyard areas may notice an increased police presence.
