Serious ATV crash at Elderslie

Around 4.20pm yesterday emergency services attended a serious ATV crash on a rural property at Elderslie.

A 43-year-old female from Elderslie was operating the ATV on private property when the ATV has rolled over causing the female to be ejected. The female has sustained serious injuries and was subsequently transported via helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

At the time of the crash the rider was not wearing a helmet.

Investigations are being conducted to determine the cause of the crash.

Each year quad bikes are a major cause of death and serious injuries on Tasmanian Farms. Tasmania Police would like to remind Tasmanian’s of the serious risks when operating ATV’s. Riders are urged to adopt a safe riding practice including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment,  undertaking appropriate training prior to using ATV’s, and ensuring ATV’s are maintained in working order.
