Serious car and motorcycle crash – Risdon Road, New Town

A 48 year old male from Bagdad is in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition following a car and motorcycle collision on Risdon Road, New Town at the intersection with Swanston Street.

The collision occurred approximately 3:40pm when a westbound Suzuki motorcycle and a southbound Subaru SUV collided in the intersection. The motorcycle rider was treated at the scene for injuries and transported to Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious but stable condition. The driver of the Subaru, a 41 year old female from Moonah and a child passenger were uninjured. Both parties are assisting police with their enquiries.

Tasmania Police, Crash Investigation Services, Forensic Services and Ambulance Tasmania attended the scene and an investigation into the circumstances of the crash was carried out. Investigations are continuing at this time. Police do not suspect the use of alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the collision.

Risdon Road at the crash scene was reduced to one lane for approximately 1.5 hours whilst investigations were carried out. Police thank motorists for their patience.
