Police are investigating a serious crash involving a white Mazda and a cyclist on Kennedy Drive at Cambridge today.

A/Inspector, Southern Road Policing, Rob Bessell said police and emergency services were called to the scene about 12.10pm.

“The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was transported by ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital for medical treatment and is reported to be in a critical condition,” he said.

“The driver of the Mazda, a woman in her 70s, stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their investigations into the crash. She was not physically injured.

“The road was closed for about two hours to allow crash investigators to examine the scene and conduct inquiries, and we thank motorists for their patience and understanding.”

“While investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, this is a reminder that cyclists are vulnerable road users, and we all have a part to play in keeping each other safe on the roads.”
