Serious Crash – Lilydale Road, Rocherlea

At about 11:55 hrs on Sunday 3 January 2016, a green 2008 KLR650 Kawasaki motorcycle was travelling west on Lilydale Road, Rocherlea, approximately 2 kilometres west of the junction with Pipers River Road. The rider was a 51 year old man from Underwood.

A silver 2007 Corolla Seca, was travelling east at the same location.  The driver of the Corolla Seca was a 39 year old female from Riverside and there was also a 7 year old female occupant in the vehicle from Lilydale.

For unknown reasons the rider lost control of the motorcycle, crossed double white lines onto the incorrect side of the road and collided with the right front side of the oncoming vehicle.

Tasmania Police and Tasmania Ambulance Service attended the crash. The rider was transported to the Launceston General Hospital.  At the time of the crash the injuries sustained by the rider were deemed to be critical. The occupants of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

The rider was wearing appropriate protective clothing.

Crash Investigation and Forensic Services attended the scene.

It is not believed that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
