Serious Crash – Pipers River Road, Lower Turners Marsh.

At about 3:50 pm on Tuesday 25 December 2018, a green 1994 Ford Laser was travelling south on Pipers River Road, Lower Turners Marsh, approximately 200 metres north of 1690 Pipers River Road. The driver  was a 34 year old female from Mount Direction.

A green 2001 Kia Rio, was travelling north at the same location.  The driver of the Kia Rio was an 18 year old male from Waverley and there was also a 18 year old male occupant in the vehicle from Ravenswood.

For unknown reasons the female driver veered onto the incorrect side of the road, crossing double white lines and collided with the left front side of the oncoming vehicle.

Tasmania Police and Tasmania Ambulance Service attended the crash. All occupants were transported to the Launceston General Hospital, both drivers have sustained minor injuries.

At the time of the crash the injuries sustained by the male passenger in the Kia Rio were deemed to be critical.  He has been transported by Helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Crash Investigation and Forensice Services attended the scene.

It is believed that inattention has contributed to the crash.

It’s timely to remind motorists that distraction and fatigue are amongst the Fatal Five contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes on our roads.
