At approximately 5.20pm Thursday 12 January 2012 a serious motorcycle accident occurred on Highland Lakes Road approximately 7 kms south of the Liffey Falls turnoff. 

A 2010 Suzuki motorcycle ridden by a 31 year old male has failed to negotiate a sweeping corner and crashed into a roadside ditch.

The rider was treated at the scene by Tasmania Ambulance personnel and transferred to the Launceston General Hospital in a critical condition.

The weather conditions at the time of the crash were fine and the road was dry. Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
