Serious two vehicle crash on Liena Rd Mole Creek

Police and emergency services were called to a serious two vehicle crash on Liena Road, Mole Creek about 6.00pm yesterday.

Five people were travelling on the incorrect side of the road in a white Nissan Patrol and collided with a silver Hyundai Accent driven by a couple in their 70’s before hitting a power pole.

The 18 year old driver of the Nissan Patrol suffered a possible spinal injury and was airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a stable condition.

One of the passengers in the Nissan, and the occupants of the Hyundai were transported to the Launceston General Hospital with a non-life threatening injuries.

All other passengers were treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

Inspector Ruth Orr said that Tasmania Police Crash Investigations and Forensic Services attended the scene and Liena Rd was closed for about four hours whilst investigations were conducted.

“Our officers are on the roads every day and night, but we really need the community to take responsibility for themselves and others and take road safety seriously,” said Inspector Orr.
