Significant search ongoing in Stormlea area for missing 4-year-old girl, Shayla Phillips

A significant search is ongoing in the Stormlea area on the Tasman Peninsula for missing 4-year-old girl, Shayla Phillips.

“As we enter day two of the search for Shayla, increasing concerns are held for her welfare,” said Inspector Gavin Hallett.

Shayla has long brown curly hair and was last seen around 2.30pm yesterday wearing pink leggings, a cream top, and gumboots. A dog that was missing with Shayla was located around 7pm last night, a distance of around 800m from where she was last seen.

“Due to the isolation and terrain in the Stormlea Road area where Shayla was last seen, a broad range of resources are continuing to be utilised to search from the air and on the ground.”

Resources from Tasmania Police, including Search and Rescue, divers, drone operators, and investigators, are being assisted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Tasmania SES, and Ambulance Tasmania.

“Today we have focused on revisiting previous search zones, broadening the search area, and bringing in additional resources.”

Anyone with information that would assist the police search is asked to call police on 131 444.
