Somerset incident to be investigated

Police attended a property in Bells Parade, Somerset, around 11am this morning after a report of threats being made.

A Somerset man barricaded himself inside the residence, while police attempted to negotiate with him.

During negotiations, man exited the building and suffered self inflicted injuries.

Medical assistance was provided to the man and he was transported to North-West Regional Hospital in a critical condition.

“This is a distressing incident and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of everyone involved, including our officers, emergency services and those who witnessed the incident,” Commander Williams.

“No one else was injured in the incident.

“Support is being provided to our members and other emergency service workers affected.”

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

“A Professional Standards investigation will be conducted into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Commander Williams said.
