Speeding motorists place road workers at risk

Police would like to remind drivers to obey roadwork signage for the safety of road workers, themselves and others motorists on the road.

During a traffic operation today on the East Derwent Highway at Gagebrook, police detected 12 motorists travelling above the 40kph roadwork limit in just 40 minutes. One motorist was detected at travelling nearly twice the roadwork limit.

“This is a disappointing result and places road workers and other motorists at risk. Motorists need to ensure they follow speed limits when travelling through roadworks to avoid potential injuries and costly penalties,” said Sergeant Jason Klug from Bridgewater Police Station.

Tasmania Police continue to focus on making the roads safe. Information relating to unsafe driving can be provided to police by calling 131 444, or to Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au
