Sadly police can confirm a person has died in a structure fire at Swansea tonight.

Police and emergency services were called to a fire on Meredith Court at around 4.15pm.

On arrival Tasmania Fire Service crews found a 10 metre by 10 metre garage behind the residence fully engulfed by fire.

Sadly once the fire was brought under control a body was located inside. A formal identification has yet to be conducted but it is believed to be a 61-year-old man who was living in the garage.

A fire scene examination will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.

A formal identification of the deceased will be conducted and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
