Theft of Rock Lobster from commercial fishing vessel in Margate

Tasmania Police is investigating the theft of over 80 rock lobster (crayfish) from a commercial fishing vessel b berthed at the Margate wharf off Gemalla Road overnight Thursday 4 March 2021. The theft was first detected on the morning of Friday 5 March 2021.

Police would like to hear from anyone who noticed any unusual activity at the wharf or in Gemalla Road on Thursday night/Friday morning. Perhaps you have been offered rock lobster for sale in the last few days or you may have heard who might have been involved in the theft.

Rock lobster can only be sold under the terms of a commercial fishing licence.  Legitimately sold rock lobster will have a yellow tag attached at the time of sale and a receipt must also be provided.
