Three men charged with arson – Smithton house fire

At 11:30PM on Monday 4th-January-2016, Tasmania Police and the Tasmania Fire Service were called to attend a structure fire in Coomonderry Court, Smithton.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a Housing Tasmania residential house well alight. Extensive damage was caused to the unit – estimated at $160,000.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries sustained.

Following an investigation by the Burnie Criminal Investigation Branch, three men were arrested and interviewed in relation to the circumstances surrounding the fire.

The three men, aged 19, 24 and 58 have been charged with arson.

All three men have been bailed to appear in court at a later date.
