Three provisional drivers detected travelling at 190Km/h, Southern Outlet, Kingston

Three provisional drivers have been detected travelling at 190km/h during a racing incident on the Southern Outlet at Kingston.

Tasmania Police detected three 18 year old male drivers, all holders of a provisional 1 licence, travelling at 190km/h, and within close proximity of each other, as they drove in a southerly direction towards Kingston on the Southern Outlet about 4am on Wednesday March 27.

P1 drivers are restricted to a 90km/h speed limit when travelling on this particular stretch of road, so the drivers were travelling at 100km/h over their maximum speed limit.

All three drivers have been interviewed by police and as a result of further investigations, they will be proceeded against by way of summons. Their vehicles have been clamped for a period of 28 days.

“While the majority of drivers do the right thing on our roads, the driver behaviour exhibited by the three young men is extremely disappointing. The danger they presented not only to themselves, but also to members of the public is unacceptable,” said Acting Sergeant Alex Spehr.

“Our message is simple: drive safely on our roads or risk the consequences.

“This means slow down, put your mobile phone away, wear your seatbelt, and don’t drive while tired or after drinking or taking drugs.

“Speeding is a significant contributing factor to serious and fatal motor vehicle crashes on Tasmanian roads.

“It only takes a split second for tragedy to unfold on our roads…so please drive responsibly for everyone’s safety.”

If you witness dangerous driving behaviour, please call police on 131444 or triple zero in an emergency.
