Two Vehicle Fatal Crash, Mornington, 17 December 2017

Approximately 2.47pm on Sunday the 17th of December, 2017 a two vehicle crash occurred on the South Arm Highway at the intersection of Mornington Road, Mornington.

The crash has occurred when a Grey 2003 Kia Rio exited Mornington Road in an attempt to cross the south bound highway lanes and travel north on South Arm Highway.

At this time a white Holden Commodore utility was travelling south in the western most south bound lane and a collision between the two vehicles has occurred when the front of the Holden impacted the driver’s side of the Kia.

The driver of the Kia, a 49 year old male from Parattah, was declared deceased at the scene. Three female passengers in the vehicle, two of which were children were conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital where they were to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Holden, a 25 year old male from Rokeby received minor injuries and was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment before being released.

The south bound lanes of South Arm highway were closed for several hours whilst Crash Investigation and Forensic officers examined the scene.

Police would like to speak to any person who may have witnessed the crash.
