Update – Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse

Tasmania Police is investigating allegations made to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse against former Hutchins School teacher Ronald Thomas.

Police have spoken to the two former students who gave evidence to the Royal Commission. The men have indicated they would like the matters looked into by police.

As a result, Tasmania Police have sent two detectives to interview Mr Thomas in New Zealand.

It is important that the men are kept informed and that they are provided with victim support mechanisms. Our liaison with the men includes providing advice on the process for investigating historic sexual assault complaints.

Once the police investigation is concluded, a report will be provided to the DPP for review.
