Police have charged a 36-year-old Parattah woman who was detected driving while more than five times the legal limit yesterday.

About 2:45pm Saturday (22 August), police observed a Grey Jeep SUV travelling through Parattah on the wrong side of the road, almost impacting a parked vehicle.

Police intercepted the driver who returned a positive reading for alcohol.

She was conveyed to Oatlands Station where she returned a reading of 0.260 – more than 5 times the legal limit.

The woman was charged and bailed with a condition to not be found in the controls of a motor vehicle.

She was also disqualified for a period of 12 months.

About 5:30pm, police were contacted by community members to advise the same woman was observed to have returned to her vehicle in which she then drove from the scene.

Police again spoke with the woman who was advised that she would be proceeded against for disqualified driving and contravene conditions of a notice.This level of offending shows a blatant disregard for the safety of other road users and police will continue to take strong action against those that put the public’s safety at risk.
