Devonport police charged a 34-year-old woman with drink driving offences after she was detected with a blood alcohol reading over six times the legal limit yesterday.

The woman was detected driving on Wenvoe Street around 8.30am yesterday and returned a breath analysis reading of 0.321. She was disqualified from driving on the spot for 12 months and will face court early next year.

“Police would like to remind motorists that have consumed alcohol either prior to driving or the night before to be careful when getting behind the wheel,” said Acting Sergeant Jessica Godfrey.

“If you’ve consumed alcohol before you get behind the wheel of a vehicle, not only are you likely to exceed the legal alcohol limit of 0.05%, but you put yourself and other road users at risk of serious injury or death.

“This is a timely reminder to all motorist leading into the Festive period that if you choose to have a drink, either have an alternative transport arrangement in place to get home or give yourself enough time for alcohol to leave your systems the next day before driving.

“Tasmania Police conduct alcohol and drug tests at all times of the day and night, and morning alcohol and drug testing will be a continued focus over the festive season – so please think carefully before you drive after consuming alcohol.”
