Yolla Man charged following a series of Wynyard Country Burglaries

Police have charged a Yolla man with nineteen offences following burglaries in the Wynyard community.

Since late December 2019, the Wynyard community living in rural areas around Yolla and Elliot have been victim to a person allegedly breaking into houses and outbuildings in the early hours of the morning and stealing property. Approximately $40,000 worth of property was allegedly stolen.

On Wednesday 29 March 2020, Detectives from Burnie Criminal Investigation Branch searched a Yolla house and recovered a significant amount of allegedly stolen property. The property recovered included jewellery, chainsaws, a large number of power tools, a television, surveillance cameras, a lawnmower, brush cutter and some lazer levels.

A 29-year-old Yolla man was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, six counts of burglary, nine counts of stealing, one count of fraud, and one of trespass.  He will appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court on 7 July 2020.

Police would like to use this as a reminder for people to record serial numbers or engrave their valuable property and to report suspicious activity in rural area as soon as possible.
