A Devonport youth has been charged following an alleged robbery in Devonport last night.

Around 6pm, police responded to a report that a youth had stolen a woman’s phone in the Rooke Street Mall.

Members of the public who witnessed the incident gave chase to the youth and recovered the phone.

The 17-year-old male youth was identified and subsequently arrested. He was charged with Aggravated Robbery and appeared before the Youth Justice Court last night.

The woman involved sustained minor injuries which did not require medical attention. No other members of the public were injured.

Police would like to thank members of the community who provided immediate assistance to the woman.
