Youths apprehended after burglary

In the early hours of Tuesday, 7 December 2010 the Dodges Ferry Supermarket at 60 Carlton Beach Road, Dodges Ferry was burgled by a group of youths in a stolen blue Nissan Skyline sedan.

A large quantity of cigarettes was stolen and the offenders fled the scene after being challenged by workers in a nearby business.

Police established perimeters of all major roads. The stolen vehicle drove over road spikes deployed by Police in Risdon and was followed by Police for some distance through Geilston Bay and Lindisfarne. The stolen vehicle eventually came to a halt in the Flagstaff Gully Link Road. The youths attempted to flee, however, one youth was arrested by Police and another slipped and fell into the path of a slow moving police vehicle. The injured youth was treated at the scene by Police and Ambulance Tasmania personnel and was transferred to the Royal Hobart Hospital. The youth sustained two (2) broken legs.

The remaining youths escaped on foot into nearby bushland. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was deployed and located one of the youths using high tech infra-red and night vision equipment. Two youths aged 16yrs, and one aged 15yrs are in custody whilst another two (2) youths remain outstanding.

The cigarettes were found in the boot of the stolen vehicle.
