Commissioned by Tasmania Police and conducted by the Australian New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA), the Role of Police Review Report provides a clear, contemporary picture of frontline policing across Tasmania’s seven 24‑hour stations and reflects the realities, pressures and complexity faced by officers every day.
Shaped by our people
The report is grounded in the voices and experiences of our members.
Nearly 200 officers and policing partners contributed through surveys and interviews, ensuring that the findings and recommendations are informed directly by those doing the work.
Why this report matters
Tasmania Police commissioned the review to ensure members are properly supported to do the work that only police can do – and to do it well, safely and sustainably.
The findings and recommendations of the ANZPAA report will play a key role in our future planning.
The 39 recommendations will inform organisational priorities and discussions with partner agencies.
Some recommendations are already aligned with work underway, while others will require further assessment, prioritisation and collaboration before implementation decisions are made.
Together the recommendations provide a clear, evidence‑based opportunity to:
- refocus police effort on core policing work
- clarify and reduce non‑police demand – and redirect appropriate responsibilities to partner agencies
- improve systems, technology and processes that currently add unnecessary complexity and workload
- strengthen officer safety, wellbeing, training and support
- support smarter workforce models, rather than relying solely on additional police numbers.
