Consultation for proposed changes to the Firearms Licence Application Form

There are proposed changes to the Firearms Licence Application Form established under the Firearms Act 1996 (the Act). The purpose of this consultation is to allow for community to provide input prior to finalising the form.

It has been many years since the form has been reviewed and currently more than 50% of all applications lodged are delayed due to issues associated with the completion of the form. It is hoped that these delays can be significantly reduced for applicants through use of the revised application form.

Consultation on proposed amendments to the Firearms Act 1996 relating to antique firearms

It is recognised that antique firearms are often valuable heirlooms, passed down generations, or collected for their historical value. Accordingly, the Government has committed to changing antique firearms laws. The proposed amendments will strike the right balance between the legitimate interests of antique firearms owners and addressing community safety risks.

Consultation on the Community Protection (Offender Reporting) Amendment Bill 2023

Proposed amendments to the Community Protection (Offender Reporting) Act 2005 are intended to strengthen the protection of children and the community from the harms caused by sexual offenders and to ensure that young people are not recorded on the sex offenders register in cases where they pose little or no risk to the community.
