Safe2Say is an online portal where anyone can report sexual harm against children and adults directly to Tasmania Police.

With Safe2Say, you are in control. You can choose when and where you make a report. You decide what you want to say. You decide whether to stay anonymous.

When you make a report, you will receive a confidential Report ID and password so that you can choose to log back in and communicate directly with specialist investigators – all while remaining completely anonymous.

About Safe2Say 

The Safe2Say service is only monitored during business hours Monday–Friday and is not for emergency or crisis reporting. You will not receive an immediate response.

If the abuse happened in the last week you should consider calling Tasmania Police directly on 131 444, as there may be valuable forensic evidence police can gather. 

You can also contact a sexual assault support service (see below). A specialist counsellor can support you confidentially and talk you through your options, including medical care.

What you can Report 

Safe2Say is for reporting current or past sexual assault or abuse of a child or adult or online sexual abuse.

You can share as much or as little information as you feel comfortable with – but remember that providing limited details may affect how much police can do.

To report something else, you can call police for non-urgent matters on 131 444, attend your local police station, visit the Tasmania Police online crime reporting portal, or contact Crime Stoppers.

What happens when you report

Police may use the information you provide to help keep people safe.

This may include:

  • the information – including your contact details – being stored securely in police systems
  • the information being investigated – including talking to the people named in the report
  • sharing information with child safety services if there are concerns about a child’s safety
  • police taking steps to help prevent further sexual harm.

When you make a report, you can tell us what you would like police to do with the information you provide.

Police will try to follow your wishes, but this may not always be possible. If a child may be at risk, or someone is in danger, police may need to act to help keep people safe.

Who can use Safe2Say

You can complete a report yourself, ask a trusted person to help, or submit it on behalf of someone else.

You can also report something you witnessed.  

If you are not sure what to do, or you are under 16, you may want to ask a trusted adult or support service to help you make your report.

 If possible, try and make your report in a place where you feel safe and have privacy.   

Safe2Say is not for mandatory reporting by government agencies.

Privacy and Anonymity

Safe2Say uses the TOR network and allows you to report anonymously. This means that police cannot see details about the device you are using to submit your report.

No identifying information is collected unless you choose to provide it.

While Safe2Say provides a secure environment, you should be aware that no online service can remove every risk. If you do not wish to use the internet, you can also report anonymously by phone to the Crime Stoppers hotline – 1800 333 000.

Reports are viewed only by employees of Tasmania Police, though some information may be shared with Child Safety Services at the Department for Education, Children and Young People if required to protect a child. Tasmania Police may keep reports permanently.

If you provide your details, Tasmania Police will keep them confidential where possible. In some situations, the law or a court may require police to share that information.

This service provides 24-hour crisis response and support for survivors of recent sexual assault. Our on-call counsellors can provide information about:

  • having and coordinating a forensic medical examination and/or medical check-up
  • accessing emergency contraception
  • reporting the crime to police and coordinating your statements
  • accessing counselling and support
  • referrals to other agencies.
